Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Instructions

Prepare the Apples : Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Toss them with lemon juice if desired to keep them from browning while you prepare the other ingredients.
Melt the Butter : In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until it’s foamy and fragrant.
Add Sugars and Spices : Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well to combine, allowing the sugars to dissolve slightly in the butter.
Cook the Apples : Add the apple slices to the skillet, tossing gently to coat them evenly in the spiced butter mixture. Pour in the water to help create a syrupy sauce.
Simmer Until Tender : Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet. Let the apples simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft but still hold their shape.
Finish with Vanilla : Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Taste and adjust sweetness or spices if needed.
Serve Warm : Transfer the fried apples to a serving dish and enjoy them warm as a side dish, over pancakes, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert
