Quick, easy and delicious chocolate cake
Preparation:
1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a cake tin or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
2. Prepare the cake batter:
- In a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate and butter together. You can do this over a pot of simmering water or in short bursts in the microwave, stirring frequently until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Sift the flour and yeast together, then gradually add them to the egg mixture, stirring until well combined.
- Pour in the melted chocolate and butter mixture, stirring until the batter is smooth and uniform.
3. Bake the cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Place the tin in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
4. Prepare the ganache:
- Chop the baking chocolate into small pieces and place them in a heatproof bowl.
- In a saucepan, heat the whole milk or cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- Pour the hot milk or cream over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for a few minutes to soften the chocolate.
- After a few minutes, gently whisk the mixture until smooth and glossy. Allow the ganache to cool slightly and thicken for about 1 hour.
5. Assemble the cake:
- Once the ganache has thickened to a spreadable consistency, pour it over the cooled cake.
- Use a spatula to spread the ganache evenly over the top and sides of the cake, allowing it to drip slightly over the edges for a beautiful finish.
- Allow the ganache to set before slicing and serving your delicious chocolate cake.
Enjoy your homemade chocolate cake with the luxurious ganache topping!
