Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Add flour, olive oil, and salt. Stir until the dough forms a rough ball.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and sugar. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
Remove from heat and set aside.
Step 3: Assemble the Pizza
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
Grease a 12-inch cast iron skillet or pizza pan with olive oil.
Press the dough evenly into the pan, making sure it reaches the edges.
Spread a layer of sauce over the dough.
Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
Add pepperoni slices and sliced red onion if desired.
Step 4: Bake the Pizza
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Let the pizza cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
