For the creamy cheese base:
3 tbsp unsalted butter
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild, your choice)
1/2 cup sour cream
Optional toppings:
Crumbled cooked bacon
Extra shredded cheese
Chopped green onions
Crushed crackers
